The PENSI Institute is the research and education branch in children's health of the José Luiz Egydio Setúbal Foundation (FJLES). It is a center that generates, translates and disseminates scientific knowledge to health professionals, educators, families and society in general.

The paths of PENSI and EI-3 crossed in 2017, when the president of FJLES, Dr. José Luiz Egydio Setúbal, and the executive director of PENSI, Dr. Fátima Rodrigues Fernandes, participated in the 'Executive Leadership Program in Early Childhood Development', held at Harvard University in Cambridge, United States.

By believing in knowledge as a tool for social transformation, the Institute embraced this challenging project. Since then, a team was formed to ensure the practical and legal issues of the EI-3: secure funding, formalize cooperation agreements with public agencies and other institutions and associations, import equipment and structure a laboratory, as well as finalize all the regulatory and contractual procedures of the project, both nationally and internationally.

Besides being aligned with PENSI's purpose and vision, the EI-3 meets, mainly, the Institute's mission, which is "excellence in research, knowledge dissemination, volunteerism and social projects to develop children's health".

Structurally, the EI-3 is located in the PENSI Institute's Research Center, but has the support of other departments. It has a team of psychologists dedicated exclusively to its activities and the support of professionals from different areas, such as administrative, financial, technological and medical.
